Final evaluation.

For the past 18 Weeks i have been involved in different aspects each at six weeks long. The first six weeks we worked in groups to create a stop motion video with Julian. I enjoyed this Part of the work because me and the other Sam had a mad few minutes whilst taking the pictures for the final stop motion video and then choosing the music which went really well with the content of the stop motion real. After putting it all together and editing music over the top and effects at the end and beginning. We then moved on to the blogging aspect for 6 weeks which was basically adding everything from the past few weeks and making sure it is all up to date. During this time we also did some mini tasks on top of the bumping up our blog work. The final 6 weeks of the assignment we went on to creating a CD cover with Marie, i think i enjoyed this part of the assignment more because it gave me a chance to get all creative and arty. I enjoyed creating my final CD cover and it gave me a chance to look through my images that i have taken during other assignment to see what i thought could go well with the colour scheme of my final case design. if i were to redo this entire assignment i think i would have kept up with the blog and tried to have gotten more into it without getting behind. i think i would have also tried to create a better front cover for my CD case and got it all printed off as one so i did not have to cut each individual image out and stick them to the cases.

The steps of making my CD cover.

Above is an example of a CD case template mine was similar however i drew and cut out my own as seen below.
Above is the outer shell box net, and below is the two CD holders themselves in net form.
Using A3 card a pencil, ruler and scissors. it took me a while to draw as i had to get all the lines straight and then my cutting out was a little wonky, so i had more than one attempt. The next step was to cut it all out as shown below.
Step three consisted of taking all the pre-cut nets and scoring along the lines in order for them to fold easily.

After scoring all the lines that need to be scored ready the next step is  to fold each of the scored lines in order to stick the case together. Below is how i did this.

The next step is to add the glue or double-sided sticky tape to make the card of the case stick together and stay together to make it sturdy.

the first image in the section is the cutting of a piece of double sided sticky tape i then place it on the flap i wanted to stick down (picture two) and the final image is the removing of the backing so it is possible to stick both of the sides together to make the pouch that holds th CD.
The final step is to hold together the areas that i wanted to stick together to make sure that the fibers have fused together so that the case will not fall apart and the CD becomes scratched. Then the case can be decorated as the album artist wishes. I then repeated these steps twice more once to create a second CD holder and a third time with some alterations to create the box that holds both of the CD envelopes.

I enjoyed making my CD case as i got to raid my my back bedroom at home looking for materials to create my case.

Here is the cover work for the outer CD case that i made as there is one main outer box and and two CD slips that hold the actual CD. I edited this image in Photoshop, i created it whilst i was experimenting with different effects and fonts. I like this image because its different and it is one of my images for the previous
assignment which i have done on a Monday and Tuesday alongside this six weeks with Marie.
This image is the cover for the Disc one of the two discs my CD cover holds. I chose this photograph because i thought it fitted well with the theme of the main CD cover. I used a similar technique to edit this image except i desaturated the original image to make it black and white. Then i created the vignette using a black brush instead of the white one that i used in the main cover design.

CD cover research.

Depending on the types of music people like shows on the different kinds of CDs they buy.

Above are some examples of different covers for CDs that are out there in the world today. I prefer a CD cover closer to the style of the Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Lily Allen as they are closer to the style of music i enjoy listening to. Other people may disagree with me and say that they prefer to listen to rock music and so may not like the covers of some of these CD's but that all depends on somebody's taste in music and some people may like all types of different music.

The before and after of my poster.

     After.

Before.

Here is the before and after of the image i used for my poster.
Using photoshop i cropped the image so that you cannot see the top of the cove. I then brightened the image using the layer and adjustment drop down menus and then finally selecting curves and changed the brightness. In order to change the the style of the picture so that the edges had a glow. I chose the filter drop down menu and then the stylize drop down and glowing edges, i then played around with the settings till i found a style i liked. After completing the manipulation of the image i added the writting, using the writting tool on the edge of the screen then typing the information straight onto the image. I enjoyed this task however i think i could have used either another image or a bunch of images, i could have used a different font maybe make it a bit bigger. I could have experimented more with different effects and maybe lightened the original image so that it was not so dark.

Wednesday the 19th January 2011

For the next few weeks i will be designing a CD cover and posters and flyers, for a band of made up choice. For the first two weeks i missed because i was unwell. So the first two weeks the rest of the class were taken through what they had to do and then the second week they went out and took photographs for their posters and flyers.

Here are some examples of posters.

I like these images because the are different quirky even.  Different people like different styles of music and that can be shown in the clothing they wear, for example most hardcore rock fans will wear tour shirts and dark clothing with chains.

Wednesday 1st December 2010.

Due to the bad weather on this day, many of our group could not get into college so with the low amount of students we were put into other groups and we worked on a rota system. We went into the studio  where we had a play around with the camera and using a coloured gel to create a background. Here are some of the images.  We found that some of the images came out dark, this could be due to the lighting being in the wrong area  or the models standing to far back from the lighting. The second picture you can see has the top of the infinity cove in it, this is due to the camera angle, but it can easily be corrected by cropping the image in the right place. We also used the fan in some of the images however the only thing it did was mess the models hair up and not make the picture look particularly good. During our time in the studio we got to use
